Periplaneta, is a newly found independent publishing house based in Athens, Greece. They publish curious academic and para-academic discourse on "thorny" matters in printed and digital publications (books & pamphlets, audio books, e-books). Periplaneta makes available key emerging and old ideas and debates across sciences and arts with a critical perspective. Their first book will be printed mid March 2022. The brand values are intellectual curiosity, interdisciplinary, liminality and experimentation. The logotype is designed to reflect the ongoing dialogue among authors and readers, in the combined forms of a fountain pen tip, an open book and a roaming cockroach (Periplaneta Americana*). The open pages of the book become the insect's wings for exploration of the world. It captures the liminal and curious nature of the brand by fusing these three forms into a balanced symbol, designed through a series of overlapping circles.
The symbol of the logotype is the basic component of a flexible visual system, that can accommodate the interdisciplinary nature of the publications (philosophy, neuroscience, literature etc) and the varying media applications (print & digital). Slight alterations in fill colour can produced a large amount of thematic publication series. Through further experimentation and repetition of the basic components, a seemingly endless amount of patterns can be produced, to be applied on every touch point of the reader with the publishing house (digital campaigns, book spine, cover interior pages etc).
